About us

KhanLex Partners LLP (“KhanLex”) has long been one of Mongolia’s premier law firms with a strong focus on finance, infrastructure, general commercial and corporate law and dispute resolution.

Over the past 10 years, we have provided local market knowledge to global market players – our clients ranging from multilateral institutions to global corporations to foreign SOEs. We are proud to have been counsel to a number of Mongolia’s landmark deals, some of which have been recognized internationally.

In addition to its core areas (finance, infrastructure, general commercial and corporate law and dispute resolution), KhanLex have been at the forefront of the fast-emerging practice of “green finance” in Mongolia. “Green finance” generally means any structured financial activity created to ensure a better environmental outcome.

KhanLex are proud to have worked on a wide range of “green finance” projects – green housing financing, residential retrofitting, establishment of dedicated green finance corporation, renewables etc.

How we came to be

KhanLex Partners were founded in 2011 by Messrs. Enkhbat Batsukh and Batjargal Gombosuren, two former Mongolian government lawyers, focusing on cross-border transactions. The firm quickly built up a reputation of a “go-to firm” for local market knowledge for multilateral institutions and foreign corporations as well as international law firms seeking Mongolian law advice for their clients.

KhanLex Partners merged with another Mongolian law firm to create a merged firm under the name “MDS KhanLex”.

However, in 2018, the founding partners of the former KhanLex Partners, have de-merged and re-launched KhanLex Partners. Joining KhanLex Partners as a partner was Uchralbayar Iderkhangai, former senior associate of the merged firm “MDS KhanLex”, bringing further expertise in dispute resolution and project finance.
Following the de-merger in 2018, KhanLex Partners have regained its focus on complex cross-border transactions which the pre-merger KhanLex Partners came to be known for its. In addition, KhanLex Partners have successfully retained all of their marquee accounts they worked on while in their former law firm. These accounts include global corporations (AirBnB, Accor Hotels, Facebook and Philip Morris), infrastructure companies (Mongolia’s Clean Energy Asia, Japan’s SoftBank Energy, Australia’s Techenomics International) as well as MDBs/IFIs and large foreign banks (ADB, China Development Bank, China Exim, EBRD, JICA, DFC). The above clients have all chosen to move their accounts to KhanLex Partners.
