Batjargal has over twenty years of professional experience both in the public and private sectors of Mongolia. He started his career at the Ministry of Justice of Mongolia with the “Banking, Enterprise and Legal Technical Assistance” project funded by the World Bank. While with the Justice Ministry, he was involved in development of brand new Bankruptcy Law of Mongolia and re-writing of the Banking Law of Mongolia. Batjargal also worked as in-house counsel with SG Group and its affiliate, Mongol Metal Mining LLC. At these two companies, Batjargal advised extensively on mining, capital markets and general commercial and corporate matters, including M&A.

Batjargal co-founded KhanLex Partners LLP in 2011. In 2014 KhanLex Partners merged with another Mongolian law firm creating a new firm called “MDS KhanLex”. In 2018, however, the two firms de-merged. Following the de-merger, the former lawyers of KhanLex Partners, including Batjargal, have re-launched KhanLex Partners LLP.

Batjargal has been named a leading lawyer in Corporate/M&A and Energy & Natural Resources areas by AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers.

Representative legal matters

  • Advised a large multilateral development bank in respect of a first-tier and second-tier financing of a major Mongolian commercial bank (financial close in 2014),
  • Advised a Swiss trading company in acquiring a large fuel importer Mongolia (financial close in 2016),
  • Advised a Chinese SOE in respect of financing of development, construction and operation of a large coal-fired power plant (financial close in 2016),
  • Advised multiple IPOs in accordance with rules of Financial Regulatory Commission of Mongolia (capital markets regulator) (2014-2018),
  • Advised the Japanese sponsor in respect of corporate restructuring of its Mongolian subsidiary so as to establish a large wind farm company in Mongolia (2015),
  • Advised a multilateral development bank on the financing of Mongolia’s leading retailer for FMG, apparel and consumer electronics (financial close in March 2016)
  • Advised a multilateral development bank on convertible debt financing of a large dual-traded mining company of Mongolia (financial close in 2019)
  • Advised a large independent South East Asian power company in respect of acquiring a solar power project developer in Mongolia (financial close in 2019),
  • Advising a development finance institution of the US government on debt financing of a fast-growing cashmere producer of Mongolia (financial close in June 2020).
